Construction of a Bulk Liquids Berth

Location: Darwin - NT

Duration: 6 Months
Value: $1m

Pructon undertook the construction of the Bulk Liquids Berth (BLB) at Darwin port with the installation of a 350NB pipeline, 2.4Km in length.

Pipes were supplied to us in 12 metre lengths to our Darwin yard.  We used the innovative method of joining two lengths of pipe and welding them into 24 metre lengths in the workshop.  This effectively reduced the welding time and provided greater quality control within an environmentally controlled area.  Site installation times were improved by reducing the number of field welds by half.

We successfully completed 10% NDT, hydro testing of the line and onsite surface treatment to treat the weld margins. Works included onsite whip blasting and spray application being performed.

We fabricated and installed the pig launchers and receivers and the use of pigs to clear the line of all contaminants.  Once the line was cleaned, commissioning of the line was undertaken by our personnel in conjunction with Vopak, the terminal owners.
