Overview

Pructon was engaged to undertake a comprehensive range of services for the construction of the Diamantina Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station, a $550 million project. Utilising our Mount Isa workshop, we managed the steel fabrication, installation, commissioning, and surface treatment processes for the plant. Our team was responsible for fabricating secondary structural steelwork, modifying piping systems, and executing critical commissioning activities on-site.

Scope of Work

  • Off-Site Fabrication of Pipe and Pipe Supports: Fabricated piping and supports at our Mount Isa workshop to ensure precision and quality control.
  • On-Site Installation of Pipe and Support: Conducted the installation of fabricated pipes and supports, integrating them into the overall plant infrastructure.
  • Pressure Welding of Carbon and Stainless-Steel Pipe: Executed high-quality pressure welding for both carbon and stainless-steel piping, ensuring durability and reliability.
  • Super Duplex and Carbon Steel Piping Modifications: Managed the modification process, which included fabrication, installation, as-built drawings, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Surface Treatment and Painting of Spools: Completed on-site surface treatment and applied a three-coat paint system to enhance corrosion resistance and ensure longevity.
  • Commissioning Activities: Our personnel performed critical commissioning tasks, including the commissioning of pumps and gas turbines, steam blows, and line flushing, collaborating closely with Siemens for optimal results.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepared as-built drawings and the full manufacturing data report (MDR), alongside completing NATA-certified hydro testing and maintaining thorough documentation with a third-party inspection.

Outcomes and Benefits

  • Successful Plant Commissioning: All commissioning activities were completed effectively, ensuring the plant's operational readiness and compliance with specifications.
  • Enhanced Safety and Reliability: The meticulous fabrication and installation processes contributed to the overall safety and reliability of the power station.
  • Comprehensive Project Documentation: Our thorough documentation practices provided the client with a complete record of the project’s manufacturing and testing processes, supporting future maintenance and operational activities.
