Pructon was engaged to undertake the drafting, fabrication and installation of platforms, walkways and ladders within the fuel farm at the HMAS Coonawarra Naval Base in Darwin.
The works were undertaken in and around live fuel tanks and lines. We reviewed the design on behalf of the client and provided design advice to improve accessibility.
Cost savings were also realised, resulting from a reduction in the amount of steel required to complete the works. The site consisted of three separate tank areas, and we identified safety hazards in each area. Many of these hazards were able to be eliminated following the advice we provided to engineer new structures and re-engineer existing ones.
